ionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. Tango Due to no fault of his own, our sweet big baby needs to be re-homed due to the owners' medical issues. Tango is a great dane/lab mix and is a little over 1.5 years old. Tango is an inside dog but LOVES to be outside running as fast as possible and playing with his favorite ball. He loves to sun bathe in the grass and belly rubs. He loves people and kids and is a gentle giant. He spends time at doggie daycare monthly so he's used to being around other dogs. He's never been around cats so I'm not sure how he would be around them. My son is 5 and he was always gentle with him. He's a cuddle bug and will snuggle with you. He's never shown any signs of aggression. He is house broken and crate trained. He walks great on a harness and loves his walks. He will go over and touch his leash with his nose when he wants to go for a walk. He doesn't like car rides too much unless he can be close to you. His favorite toys are toys that squeak and crinkle. We've had to get the 'tough' toys for him because of how easily he can tear into the softer toys. Please consider bringing this sweet boy into your family. Tango is located in Arkansas and can be adopted locally, or he can be adopted out of state. If adopted out of state, his adopter will need to pick him up (or arrange for a trusted friend/family to pick him up) in TN, VA, MD, PA, NY, or CT. Residents of other states may adopt as well, as long as they can meet our transporter along their route. To apply to adopt, click the link: form.jotform/212690945239059 For questions or more info, email apps.aasrgmail. Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
