Garfunkel | 4-month-old Cattle Dog Mix | The Shy Sidekick with a Big Heart
Garfunkel is a sweet, sensitive 4-month-old Cattle Dog mix who’s looking for a patient and understanding home to help him grow into the confident companion he’s meant to be. At about 30 pounds, this white-and-tan pup has all the smarts and heart of a classic herding dog — loyal, alert, and devoted once he trusts you.
Though shy at first, Garfunkel quickly forms deep bonds with his people and other dogs. Once he’s comfortable, he’ll rest his head on you, prance happily at your side, and show off his playful side with tug-of-war or fetch. He reads other dogs’ cues beautifully and does best with slow introductions, often taking just a few minutes to relax around new canine friends. Garfunkel would do well as either an only dog or with a confident, friendly dog to show him the ropes.
He’s house trained, crate trained, and does wonderfully on a leash — always sticking close on walks and showing great potential for off-leash reliability in the future. Garfunkel is very food-motivated and already knows “sit,” “come,” “no,” and “leave it,” which makes him a joy to train. He’s a quiet pup who might whine a bit when first crated but quickly settles, especially if his crate is covered.
Because Garfunkel is still a young cattle dog, he’s showing the beginnings of herding behavior, like gentle nudging — so a home without small children would be best. His ideal adopter will understand herding breeds and provide consistent, positive reinforcement to keep building his confidence. With the right guidance, Garfunkel will blossom into a devoted, well-mannered best friend.
Whether joining you on walks, tagging along to the office, or simply curling up nearby, Garfunkel just wants to be part of your day. For someone willing to earn his trust, this shy sidekick will reward you with unwavering love and loyalty.
If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.
The adoption fee for this pet is $450 (includes a $50 refundable puppy training deposit). Our adoption fee covers the following:
Spay/neuter
Microchip
DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.
Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.
Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption.

Our adoption process is:
1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet.
2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
