ite and is now a healthy weight about 55 lbs. She was picked up by dog control in a town about an hour away after the DCO (dog control officer) canvassed the neighborhood and no one had ever seen her prior. When she went unclaimed we received the call and we are posting a photo of her that was sent to us that day asking for help. Our answer was a quick "Yes!". All of us were continually calling her "good girl" because she was and so her name became Gigi and she learned it quickly. Well, this good girl did wonderful in the car and is house trained. She will let us know when she needs to go out and she goes down the three garage steps fine but I've noticed she does prefer if you turn on the light so her site seems to be somewhat affected by her age. At first she needed a bit of help getting back up the three steps, but as she became healthier and stronger she began to fuss when we'd take her collar to help, but it seems she does feel more secure if we are standing on the steps with her and there in case she needs us. Yes, she is funny! There is a ton of personality, and a bit of feist, under all that blond fur. I probably don't need to say this, but it is true we all LOVE this girl and it sure didn't take long! She is good on leash and we escort her to go potty and she stays pretty close even off leash. Please don't try this right away. She hasn't barked yet, which we sure appreciate and her hearing may be diminished, but she can hear, we aren't exactly sure yet to the extent. She sure does appreciate a cushy bed as she can't get on the couch. She is getting a daily Rimadyl which seemed to help her get around better. She is amazing with all the other dogs here and we can't imagine a problem with cats or kids, but please no kids that might fall on her or want to ride her, etc. I guess that is about it and, yes, she is old and may not have all that long and when she does go to the Rainbow Bridge whether it's months or years after adoption she is going to break your heart, we are looking for that human that has our mindset that it's not about them, it's about the dog. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_400.00_______. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
