s handsome boy has a heart as big as his appetite and a personality that will keep you smiling from morning walks to bedtime cuddles. He also benefits from daily teeth brushing, something he tolerates well, especially if it earns him a little extra love afterward! This boy loves his food, but doesn’t guard it. He just needs gentle redirection to ensure he doesn’t sneak seconds from his housemates. Kinsey is house-trained, clearly communicates when he needs to go outside, and has done wonderfully since his initial adjustment period. Playtime is where Kinsey truly shines! He can entertain himself for hours, joyfully digging through his toy bin or “disemboweling” a stuffed animal or two. When playing with other dogs, he’s friendly and fun-loving. He especially enjoys being chased during fetch. However, he must be supervised, as he tends to chew and swallow bits of soft fabric. Kinsey is crate-trained and content when crated during the day. He enjoys several walks, visits to the dog park, and playtime in fenced-in areas. He does have a strong prey drive and will pull hard on leash if he spots a squirrel or rabbit, so a confident handler and a secure yard are musts for this curious boy. At home, Kinsey is a “Stage 5 clinger” who adores his people. He’s affectionate, goofy, and will happily rest his head in your hands, gazing at you with his soulful eyes. He’s good with adults and other dogs (cats and kids unknown) and knows several commands, including Sit, Paw, Stay, Leave it, and walking nicely on your left side. Kinsey is looking for a patient, loving home that understands the balance between structure and play. He’s silly, loyal, endlessly affectionate, and will make a wonderful companion for someone who doesn’t mind a shadow that follows them everywhere they go. Kinsey is currently asymptomatic but has tested positive twice for Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis, two tick-borne diseases. He’ll need an adopter committed to keeping an eye on his health as he ages. Anyone would be lucky to have this sweet boy by their side. Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. dobermanrescueminnesota/adoption-steps/ Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN. All DRM dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped, 4DX tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
