h another dog friend (already adopted) and I’m so happy to be here getting lots of love and needed medical care while I wait for my forever home (see medical below). I’ve gotten to visit 2 short term foster homes, and I’ve just gone into a new foster home, so there may be even more information about me soon. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I came in with a dog that I liked and have met other dogs that were about my size at Mostly Mutts and though I wasn’t ready to play with them, I also did not show any aggression. I spent a week in a home with another nice dog, and we coexisted well together, so if you have a nice dog at home that’s not looking for a playmate, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no very young kids since I’m an older gal. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a super sweet little lady who just wants the simple things in life – people to spend my time with, soft fluffy blankets to burrow into and a cozy, squishy bed to relax in. I’m calm unless left alone, friendly, and absolutely adore being with people. I settle in quickly and love to keep my favorite humans close, so a stay-at-home or work-from-home family would be perfect for me! I do tend to bark pretty loudly when I’m left alone, so I’m not the best fit for apartment or condo living – but in the right home, I’ll be your loving, loyal little companion and I’ll make sure you always know you are loved. / My energy level is 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I know the ‘sit’ command, and I’m sure I can learn more if you would like to teach me. / I’m not a big fan of being in a crate separated from my people and can be loud in it. In one of my temporary foster homes, I did like resting in it with the door open. / I had very few accidents on the shelter schedule and did well in my temporary foster homes when taken out frequently. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love going outside for little strolls - nothing beats breathing in the cool, crisp air! I’m a big fan of snuggling up together afterward. Beef liver dog treats are yummy, and honestly, just being with people makes me the happiest little pup around. I also enjoy car rides so you can take me places with you! / In addition to not being a fan of being alone much, loud noises startle me. I’m also sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’m taking an anxiety medication to help with shelter stress and it’s very possible that I’ll be able to come off this gradually as I settle into my new home. I came in with severe dental disease, and thankfully I’ve just had a good dental cleaning as well as 2 warts removed from my face. I’ve got a grade 3/6 heart murmur that does not require medication at this time and may improve now that I’ve had a good dental cleaning. I am looking for a wonderful home where I will be a cherished family member! My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
