Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes – but does want to the center of attention Good with Cats: Yes – but a little timid around them Good with Kids: Yes Energy Level: Low-Medium Fence Required: No About Pinto’s Breed: Our best guess is that Pinto is a Maltese/Poodle mix. The Maltese Poodle mix, commonly known as the Maltipoo, is a small, affectionate hybrid that blends the gentle charm of the Maltese with the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle. Typically weighing between 5–20 pounds, Maltipoos are ideal for apartment living and thrive in homes where they can be close to their people. They are known for being friendly, playful, and easy to train. With their soft, wavy or curly coats and sweet disposition, Maltipoos make wonderful companions for families, seniors, and singles alike. Pinto is almost house-trained and a crate-savvy sweetheart who prefers to be out and about with his people when they’re home. He’s fine in a crate when left alone, but if you're nearby, he’ll let you know he’d rather be cuddling! Pinto is great with kids and adults alike, though he can be a little shy at first until he feels safe and settled. Pinto’s Perfect Traits: • Almost potty trained and 100% crate trained, with great house manners • Loves people, and bonds deeply with his humans • Dog-friendly, best with a submissive pup or as a solo star • Cat-tolerant, a little nervous but improving • Good on leash, enjoys outdoor strolls • Low-key but playful, especially when food or grooming is involved • Loves attention, and prefers to be the center of it • Did great with grooming, not afraid to get a little messy! Pinto is looking for a loving home where he can be adored, go on walks, and soak up all the snuggles. He’d thrive with someone who understands his need for connection and is ready to let him be their loyal little shadow. Due to his affectionate nature, Pinto would do best in a home where someone is frequently present to give him the love and attention he craves! He'd love to find a person/family who is retired, works from home, or is routinely in the house. If you’re ready for a tiny companion with a big heart and a love for life, Pinto is ready to be your best friend! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
