o Margarita and Paloma since Aksel and Matilda are absolute sweethearts. Matilda and Margarita have already met their new families. Paloma who's leaning into the name Aspyn is a stunning liver-coated girl with the softest, fluffiest coat. After a ride from shelter volunteers with her sister, Paloma settled into the sink for a quick bath. We made sure to keep her spay incision dry, and she loved being toweled off before snuggling up. Aspyn aka Paloma enjoys playing with toys and having fun with her littermates. Aksel, Paloma, and Margarita shared a foster home until Paloma and Margarita move to their intended foster homes who weren't available until the end of the week. We just couldn't let them sit at the shelter when we could triple up for a few days. We were expecting Paloma and Margarita to get new names in their foster homes—because they don't respond to their shelter names—our fosters love to name the pups as they get to know their personalities. And Paloma is now Aspyn. Aspyn stands out as the most observant one in her litter. She takes everything in before joining the fun with enthusiasm. She's adorable with people, respectful of the resident shepherds, and happy to play with toys when the trio isn't exploring. Potty training is a work in progress, and we thought the rains might delay our progress but these puppies were troopers even in pouring rain! When encouraged outside, the pups have been having a blast jumping in puddles and being repeatedly toweled dry. Having lived in a house before, they navigate steps and various types of floors with ease. We are absolutely smitten with Aspyn's gorgous coloring and have discovered that she may be cat workable. She headed up to Truckee to her foster home which she's sharing with multiple kitties who grew up with a shepherd. As a solo pup at her new foster home, she's crated in the bedroom with her people and slept quietly all night. With a vet visit to catch up on her boosters, she's learning all about mountain living. Stay tuned for more updates on her adventures! Have you checked out our YouTube channel? We would greatly appreciate your support by subscribing, liking, and commenting on the videos we share of our adoptable shepherds in action. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
