friends wherever she goes—she’s outgoing, playful, and always eager to meet new faces, both human and canine. She still has that fun puppy energy and loves to wrestle, chase, and play tug-of-war with other dogs or her favorite person. Tug is her favorite game, and she plays to win every time! When she’s outside, she loves a good round of zoomies to get her energy out, but she also knows when it’s time to relax. After some playtime, Halo is quick to settle down and curl up right next to you—or more likely, right on top of you—for a nap and some cuddles. Halo spends most of her day lounging and loves nothing more than being close to her people. She doesn’t enjoy being left alone, so she would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. When she’s in her kennel, she does well and is content to rest until her person returns. She’s fully housetrained, crate-trained, and learns quickly—she mastered “sit” and “wait” in no time and is always eager to please. Halo enjoys car rides and gets excited whenever she sees an open car door. She’s the first one ready to go for a drive and sometimes even tries to hop into visitors’ cars just to join in on the fun. She’s a smart girl with a silly, affectionate side and has a knack for turning every moment into a good time. Halo gets along wonderfully with other dogs of all sizes and loves having playmates. Her favorite companions tend to be puppies or playful dogs who can match her energy. She’s great with kids, too, and has done well with toddlers and older children. Around adults and strangers, Halo is friendly and welcoming—she greets everyone like an old friend. Her leash manners are a work in progress, mostly because she gets so excited to see new dogs and people, but she walks nicely when it’s calm and quiet. She’s an athletic girl who can easily clear a baby gate and would love a fenced yard where she can safely run and stretch her long legs. Halo would thrive in a home with another friendly dog and a family that enjoys being active but also appreciates downtime. She loves to play hard and cuddle harder, so her perfect family would enjoy both. She’ll fit right in with people who don’t mind a giant cuddle companion on the couch and who have a secure yard for her to get her zoomies out. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, and loyal Great Dane who will make you laugh and love you endlessly, Halo is ready to meet you. Just be prepared to share your sofa—and your heart—with her. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
