- Bella is the complete package! Bella is estimated to be around 4 years old and is a loving girl looking for her forever home. Bella is a total wiggle-butt that greats everyone she meets with a big smile and is a social butterfly who wants to be everyone's friend. She has an infectious, happy personality. Bella currently weighs about 75lbs, but would benefit from losing at least 10lbs. Who needs a weight loss buddy? Bella and her brother, Bitsy, were surrendered to a local dog boarding facility after their previous owner was no longer able to care for them and moved across the country. The staff at the facility love the two dogs, but know that they deserve more attention than they can get at the facility. It would be amazing if the dogs could be adopted together, but they aren't bonded and would do okay being separated. The most important part is that they can find people to love and care for them. Bella is the mellower of the two kiddos. While she loves to run and play, she is also a big couch potato who loves cuddles and getting attention from her people. She is a goofy girl who loves rolling in the grass and sunbathing. Bella knows her basic manners, but does need some reminders now and then. She is very food-motivated, which makes training a breeze. Bella hasn't been introduced to dogs in a while, per company policy, but she likely would do well living with other easy-going dogs after a slow introduction. Bella hasn't lived with cats before, but she may do well with living with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction and proper supervision. Bella would be a wonderful addition to a home with kids 12 years and older. Bella is housetrained, but may have some accidents while adjusting to a new environment and routine. It's been about a year since she has been in a home setting, so her new family will need to be patient with her while she acclimates to being in a home again. Bella is spayed and up-to-date with her vaccines. Bella is such a wonderful girl who deserves a family for the holidays. If you think that might just be you, email us at dogsyolospca. **This is a courtesy post. Bella is NOT a YCSPCA dog. All adoption interest will be forwarded to her caretaker.**

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
