it till you hear all of his great qualities! Cash is a 2 yr old neutered male cattle dog (blue heeler). He has a beautiful mottled coat and the most amazing eyes. Right now he’s on the thin side weighing right under 40lbs and will probably get to be around 45 lbs for his ideal weight. He is as lovable, loyal and friendly as they come! With a long list of things that would make him a great companion! He is house broken and crate trained . Confident and friendly. Walks well on leash. Medium energy. Quiet in the house. Loves car rides! Good in the car even for long trips. Good for the vet. Knows “sit” “leave it”and has a pretty good recall. Loves toys. Food motivated. Athletic and lighting fast! People friendly. Dog friendly. Kid friendly. Loves being with the kids!! Cat friendly with dog savvy cats. Probably not good with chickens. Sleeps quietly through the night. No inappropriate chewing. Has basic manners but will jump up a bit when excited. Has shown no signs of any kind of aggression. Waits his turn and takes treats nicely with my other dogs. Sweet natured and just loves to be loved. He does do a little bit of love nibbles when excited. He’s a young dog but old enough to be over the puppy stage/training. Cash loves to run and would love to have an active family and big fenced in yard. He would make an awesome running, hiking, camping partner! He does rush at my horse when she comes to the fence but quickly stops when I call and comes right back to me then ignores the horse. So I’m not sure how he would do with livestock. ***Please Note*** Although Cash is very dog friendly and quiet with the other dogs in the house, his outside play with dogs is VERY rough! Even though it’s just play it will need supervision. He is not a dog that would do well off leash with unfamiliar dogs as they may not be tolerant of his rough play. He has been gentle with my grandchildren inside and outside the house. Cash has been a joy to foster and I’m sure will be a wonderful addition to his forever family! Cash is current on vaccinations and preventatives. He is also microchipped. Located in Monroeville, NJ Applications to adopt can be filled out on the ACDRA website Any questions can be emailed to his foster at thepaintedponyfarmgmail Complete an Application: .acdra/adoption-application

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
