lication so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails). Perla | 11-Month-Old Mixed Breed | Sweet, Shy & Learning the World Perla is a gentle, 40-pound beauty with a soft white coat patterned with black spots and a heart that’s slowly unfolding. She came to us as a stray, and while we don’t know her full history, she clearly feels comfort around other dogs and has picked up house manners quickly. She is fully house-trained with minimal accidents and will quietly whine when she needs to go outside. Perla is shy and very slow to warm up to people, but once she feels safe, her sweet and playful personality starts to peek through. She loves toys—especially squeaky ones—enjoys chewing on bones, and has a funny habit of dunking her toys in the water. She may even “talk” to you with cute little barks when she’s excited. She's motivated by food and toys and does well with structure, though building trust has to be done gently. Loud praise, direct eye contact, or certain kinds of touch can overwhelm her, so she’ll need an adopter who is patient, calm, and willing to move at her pace. Leash walking is currently a major challenge for Perla. She is extremely fearful of the leash and will need significant, slow, consistent work before walks become part of her routine. Because of this, she will need a fully fenced yard where she can explore safely while she builds confidence. Perla sleeps soundly in her kennel, does wonderfully when left home alone with another dog, and has had positive interactions with every dog she’s met. She hasn’t been around cats or children yet. Her ideal home will have at least one playful, confident dog to help her continue coming out of her shell, and a committed adopter who can continue her socialization and support her through her fears. Perla is a special pup who needs time, patience, and love—and in return, she’ll reward you with quiet sweetness, gentle progress, and the joy of watching her learn that the world can be safe. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $450 (includes a $50 refundable puppy training deposit). Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
