German Shepherd Dog Dogs For Adoption in La Grange , NC, USA

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Ryah is a 2 year old, 60 pound, loving, German Shepherd that, at times, still acts like a puppy. Her friskiness is amazing to see and watching her grow an

d be herself over the last several months has been a pleasure. She loves to play with other dogs, both large and small. She is small child friendly but has not met any cats. She enjoys playing with toys and can be a toy hog because if the others are not paying attention, she will take them from them. She will grab a toy to take along on walks, too, and is a pro at fetch. She also adores playing in the water, jumping in the pond to swim a bit, regardless of the weather. She does great on pack walks and takes cues from my dogs. If something catches her eye, though, she will take off but comes back afterwards. Ryah will need a big yard or will need to be taken on a lot of walks because of her energy level. Ryah is extremely agile and will need a home with an, at least, 6 foot high fence. While she is friendly towards everyone, she is protective of female humans in the home and will need slow, off property introductions with men she does not know. Ryah is housebroken and crate trained and knows how to use a doggie door with ease. She is not food aggressive and will share her food, mostly because she is busy getting into everyone else's LOL! She will sit nicely, lay down for treats and wait patiently for her food. She does a silly flop when you ask her to go from sitting to laying down. She will be a great protector and cuddle partner at the same time. She has a lot of love to offer someone. If she is exercised and engaged, she would be okay as a single owner dog, but I believe she would be better with a friend to play with and lots of toys. If you are interested in adding Ryah to your family, contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at .freedomgermanshepherdrescue . Ryah is being fostered outside of Fayetteville, NC.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
