always know I’m special and loved. I was said to have been found in a dumpster, but thankfully I made my way to Mostly Mutts, where my journey to safety began. I’m an older little guy who isn’t in the best shape, but I’m darling and so deserving of a wonderful “Hospice” home to cherish me. I needed quite a bit of care when I arrived, including bloodwork, which I received thanks to a generous grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization. I’m now in a wonderful foster home while I wait for the angel who will adopt me. I don’t see very well, so I’ll need a family who can help keep me safe as I navigate my golden days. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I simply ignore the dogs in my foster home but don’t mind if they sniff me, so if you have a dog that will be gentle with me and not want to play, let’s meet. / Cats unknown. / I’ve met the grandkids in my foster home and did well with them, but parents need to be involved to keep me safe due to my tiny size. So, let’s meet and best no very young kids that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a sweet little guy who loves nothing more than being carried around or curling up in a warm, cozy blanket - especially the heated kind. All I really want is a soft place to land where I can feel safe and loved for the rest of my life. That could be months or years… who knows? No one expected me to come this far based on the shape I was in when I arrived but look at me now - I’m doing so much better! I’m supposed to eat k/d food for my kidneys, but I don’t really like it. My foster keeps trying, but at this stage of my life, everyone just wants me to be happy. I think I was fed table scraps previously because I love hanging out in the kitchen when my foster is cooking—so cute, right? Every now and then she makes me scrambled eggs, and I think that’s the best treat ever. I enjoy wandering around the yard when the weather is nice, but if it’s cold, I do my business and head right back inside. Please stay with me when we’re outside, as I’m so small the birds of prey could take an interest in me. / Energy level: 1-2 as I do like to sleep a lot. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m not concerned about learning any commands, so we can just skip those. / I stay in a play pen when my foster is away and at nighttime and I’ve been quiet in it and will use the pee pads in there. / Due to my kidney failure, I go potty every couple hours on some days and other days I will go longer so I have pee pads available when my foster can’t take me out in time. I do have accidents but if you take me out, I will go outside. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I like being carried around, going for car rides, and snuggling up with my electric blanket since I get chilly easily. / I’m not a great eater and can be pretty picky. I’ll like one food for a little while then I’ll stop eating it, so it’s a juggling game to keep me eating well. It’s not great for me but I do like puppy kibble. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love and good care. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped. My teeth aren’t in good shape, but I cannot go under anesthesia due to the risk, so I’m on Pulse Therapy of CLINDAMYCIN a week of each month, so just ask about that. I am in kidney failure and don’t love the special kidney food but sometimes I’ll eat it, and my vision is limited. I’m looking for a wonderful Hospice family to love me and take great care of me. My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
