—sensitive, curious, affectionate, and full of love. Blue adores being near his people, whether that means lounging at your feet, snoozing nearby while you work, or nudging your phone out of your hands to politely demand pets. He’s the perfect mix of playful and calm, happy to enjoy short bursts of activity followed by long, peaceful naps. Blue is an easygoing companion who quickly adapts to a home routine. His mornings are slow—one quick trip outside, then it’s time for his first nap of the day. In the afternoons, he’s ready for a walk or a little playtime. He’s not one for all-day activity; a 30–45 minute stroll or fetch session with his favorite stuffie (which he proudly collects but never destroys) is plenty before it’s back to relaxing. This big guy is smart and observant. He’s even learning to use communication buttons like his foster brother! Blue communicates mostly through his eyes—if he’s hungry, thirsty, or needs to go outside, he’ll sit and patiently wait for you to notice, no barking or whining required. When he’s ready for attention, though, he’ll let you know with a gentle nudge and roll onto his back for belly rubs, sometimes “hugging” your arm to say thank you. Blue is housetrained, crate-trained, and does great in the car—his favorite spot is the middle seat, where he can stick his head out the window. He’s also a gentleman in the bath and tolerates nail care well, though he prefers you to go one paw at a time. He eats three small meals a day with pumpkin to keep his tummy happy and uses a slow-feeder bowl to pace himself. He currently lives with a small dog and has learned to respect his space, though he can be a bit excitable when first meeting new dogs. With slower introductions and patience, he does beautifully. He’s friendly with people of all ages, including teens, though his enthusiasm can be a little overwhelming for anyone unsure of big dogs—he just loves to greet people quickly and up close! Blue would thrive in a home where someone is around often, as he loves companionship and is used to having his humans nearby. He’d do best with another large, confident dog or as the only pet where he can soak up all the love. His ideal adopter will understand the quirks and sensitivity that come with owning a “gentle giant” and will give him structure, affection, and reassurance. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate best friend who will make you laugh daily and fill your home with love (and a few stuffies), Blue is ready to be your big, beautiful shadow. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
