ll in love after one look into her soulful, big, brown eyes. She is the epitome of a good girl and loves to be with her people. She is a perfect mix of energy, so she is happy to hang around the house during the workday and then head out for an adventure in the afternoon. Holly is fully grown and weighs about 25lbs. Holly was found as a stray, and after a couple of weeks without finding an owner, the person who found her brought her to their local animal shelter. Unfortunately, the shelter she was brought to is overcrowded, and it wasn't long until Holly found herself on the euthanasia list. We were able to save Holly, and she has been soaking up lots of love in foster care and can't wait to find her fur-ever family! Holly is a very easy-going and lovable girl. She loves to cuddle on the couch and enjoys nothing more than getting some scratches. She is a moderate-energy girl who loves her walks and would be a great companion for someone who needs a daily reminder to get outside at least once a day. She is the perfect compact size to take anywhere, but is big enough to take on whatever adventures you want. She is eager to please and has been doing well learning her basic manners. She would benefit from some continued training to help her be the best girl she can be. Holly would make a wonderful pup for a first-time dog owner who doesn't want a puppy, but still wants a dog with the energy to do fun stuff with. Holly can be a little socially awkward with other dogs, but has done well living with other easy-going dogs. Right now, she is the only dog in her foster home, and she is more than happy to be the spoiled only pup. We haven't seen Holly around cats, but she may do well living with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction. Holly could be a wonderful addition to a family with respectful kids. Holly has been doing very well with her house and crate training. She is content to hang out in her crate for short periods of time and overnight. Holly may do well living in an apartment with proper daily exercise. Holly is such an amazing girl, and we know a family just as great as her is out there. If you think that might be you, submit an application today! Holly's adoption fee is $300. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
