charming boy who is quick to win your heart with his affectionate and goofy personality. He bonds strongly with his people and is happiest when he can be by your side for whatever the day brings. Hunter has an adorable little nub of a tail that adds to his charm. Hunter weighs about 16lbs. Hunter was found as a stray and brought to a local shelter. After an owner didn't come forward, we were happy to make him a YCSPCA foster dog so he could wait for his fur-ever family in a cozy foster home. He has blossomed in foster care and can't wait to be your new BFF. Hunter has all the fun qualities that terrier lovers adore. He's smart, personable, silly, and a blast to be around. He loves to play and explore and would be a great sidekick for someone who is looking for a compact adventure buddy. Once all the fun has been had, he will make himself cozy with his foster mom on the couch. He loves belly rubs and makes sure you always have a warm buddy to cuddle with. Hunter is super smart and has already picked up lots of basic training, like sit, down, and roll over. He is a very athletic little guy and would make a perfect fit for someone who loves dog agility and training. Hunter has done well meeting other dogs and may enjoy a doggie friend in his new home, but he has also been happy to soak up all the attention being the only dog in his foster home. Hunter seems like he may be interested in chasing small critters, so probably wouldn't be a good fit to live with kitties. Hunter could make a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years and older. Hunter has been doing very well with his house and crate training, but is still not 100% trained and may need some time to pick things up in a new environment. Hunter has been doing well being left alone for short periods during the day. Hunter may do well living in an apartment with lots of daily exercise. Hunter is such a great little pup, and we can't wait for him to find his forever home. If he sounds like he might be the kiddo for you, submit an application today! Hunter's adoption fee is $250. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogsyolospca. For more general questions, please see our website at .yolospca.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
