adies-only household to help him feel his very best. This one-year-old Saint Bernard Mastiff mix weighs around 100 pounds and, once he feels safe and settled, is a playful, medium-energy dog with a soft, marshmallow personality. In a calm and familiar environment, Finn relaxes into a gentle, goofy companion who enjoys playtime and quiet moments alike. One of his cutest habits is carrying around his oversized knotted rope toy like a prized treasure, proudly trotting from room to room with it in his mouth. Finn loves food of all kinds and food is truly the way to his heart, which also makes him very responsive to training. He has completed a basic training course and knows multiple commands, and his trainers are available to help with refresher sessions in a new home to support his continued confidence building. Finn is fully housetrained and crate trained and settles quietly in his crate, though he prefers chew safe bedding since he enjoys nibbling on softer items. He walks very nicely on leash and enjoys long, relaxed walks rather than running. Finn loves playing with other dogs and would thrive with a friendly canine companion to help him feel secure. He is polite and curious around cats and does best with slow, thoughtful introductions. Finn is a very timid boy in new situations and around unfamiliar people, especially men. When he feels overwhelmed, he may bark, growl, tremble, or try to hide, which are all fear based responses rather than aggression. With patience, consistency, and a gentle routine, Finn settles in and shows his affectionate, loyal nature. A quiet, women-only home with a securely fenced yard and at least one friendly dog would be the ideal match for him. If you think Finn could be the gentle giant your home has been waiting for, please contact us for more information. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
