for a gentle soul with a heart as squishy as her name, look no further than Marshmello! This shy sweetheart may take a little time to warm up, but once she does, she’ll melt right into your life. Marshmello absolutely adores other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident canine buddy to show her the ropes. Whether it’s quiet companionship or playful zoomies, she’s happiest in the company of doggy friends. She may be a little timid at first, but don’t let that fool you—there’s a world of love in her marshmello-soft heart. With patience and kindness, you’ll see her blossom into the most loyal friend. * Dog-friendly * Shy but sweet * Heart as soft as her name Ready to meet Marshmello? She might be just the piece your family’s been missing. Marshmello is currently in a foster home. Please email adoptionspawscrossedny if you'd like to meet her! A note from Marshmello's foster: Walking: This gal LOVES her walks! She really likes to be outdoors frequently and for long walks. She sniffs and sniffs and is taking in all of the new smells and surroundings. She is walked with the easy walker harness and that is working very well. At this point she is walking with her doggie foster sister Zoe on all of her walks since Zoe is a good influence of her in terms of how to behave when people and other dogs are walking by and she's helping to build her confidence and teach her to become less reactive to strangers. We are currently working on house training and leash manners with passersby! She has her favorite safe space on the couch. She is more comfortable with us and still has opening up to do, but she's coming a long way! While she doesn't actively play with her foster sister Zoe (dog) or the kids in her foster home, she enjoys being in their company and napping with Zoe or chewing a bone while Zoe plays. She's great with the kids in terms of giving kisses and sharing a space! Being patient and giving her space and picking up her ques of what kind of contact she is ready for helps her to feel heard and helps tremendously with gaining her trust. Sometimes, it could be just sitting next to her and putting my hand out so she can sniff and then touching her so it doesn’t feel so much out of her comfort zone. She is getting more comfortable with touch! Enrichments like freezing peanut butter in a bone and toys make her happy too! Marshmallow is a sweet baby who is stepping forward into herself and becoming who she really is little by little The Rescue is open 7 days a week for you to come and meet our pets! Walk-ins are welcome! In order to interact with them, you’ll need a simple questionnaire filled out. You can fill this out at the Rescue or before you come in at: petstablished/adoption_form/36924/generic If you have any questions, please email us at adoptionspawscrossedny for more information. Please understand that we cannot hold pets for any reason. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants. The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
