t and an even bigger personality. Once a timid pup found wandering the streets of Kansas with her siblings, Ember and Sophie, Pearl has blossomed into a confident, affectionate young lady who loves nothing more than being close to her people—true to her “Velcro Dobe” nature! Pearl’s journey hasn’t been easy, but her resilience shines bright. She came into rescue underweight and uncertain, yet she’s learned that life inside a loving home is pretty amazing. Today, she’s playful, goofy, and full of joy—especially when she’s snuggled up with her favorite humans. Personality & Play: Pearl is a bundle of energy and affection. She loves to romp and play but also adores quiet cuddle time where she can press right up against you (personal space is not in her vocabulary). She currently lives with two cats and two dogs, though she’d likely thrive as an only pet or with a young, friendly male dog who can match her play style and help her feel secure. Training & Progress: Pearl is smart and eager to please—she already knows her basic commands (sit, stay, touch, down, wait, and kennel), is house-trained, and sleeps through the night. She’s also crate-trained and feels comfortable in a sturdy kennel like a Ruffland, where she enjoys meals and downtime. Like many young Dobermans, Pearl can be fearful when meeting new people or encountering unfamiliar dogs. She’s especially reactive on leash, but she’s making steady progress with training and positive reinforcement. Once she trusts you, she’s incredibly social and affectionate and will happily cover you in kisses and curl up right on top of you if she can! Ideal Home: Pearl would do best in a calm, patient, and experienced home—one familiar with the Doberman breed or with anxious dogs. She’s looking for a family willing to continue her training and help her build confidence around new situations. With the right guidance, Pearl will absolutely thrive and reward her people with unwavering loyalty and love. Pearl is the perfect mix of sweetness, spirit, and smarts. She’s come so far from the scared little dog who once wandered alone, and now she’s ready to find her forever family that will show her that she’s truly home. ❤️ Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. dobermanrescueminnesota/adoption-steps/ Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN. All DRM dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped, 4DX tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
