nce though when inquiring about me as that’s the name all my records are under). I was adopted as a puppy, but my family had a work change with travel and can no longer keep me, so Mostly Mutts welcomed me back into their family so I could find my furever home. I spent some time in the prison/foster training program off-site and learned a lot! I’m currently in a wonderful, loving foster home while I wait for my furever family to find me. · OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I’ve met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and may be a little hesitant at first, but I warm up within a few minutes and enjoy their company. However, I do guard resources from other dogs in a home setting, so I would do best as the only dog. / My former family reported that I was good with kitty cats. I have not met cats while with Mostly Mutts and all cats are different, so I don’t know how I would be with another kitty. / My former family reported that I liked the kids I met while I was with them, though I don’t recall their ages. I met kids at Mostly Mutts that were 10 years old and did well with them. I don’t like being hugged though, so kids who are old enough to understand that are best and kids should not walk me as I can be a flight risk. No very young kids and of course, let’s meet. · PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I came back to Mostly Mutts quite upset and very scared but also very sweet. My gentle nature continued to shine through, and with time and love, I’ve blossomed into the relaxed, affectionate pup I was meant to be! My foster mom says I’m the ‘best dog ever’ who will bring lots of joy and happiness to my furever family. It seems that once I know you, I’ll remember you, and when I see my favorite people, I want to get them right away in a happy way – giving them plenty of tail wags and kisses. Loud or sudden noises spook me at first, but my surroundings are feeling more and more comfortable each day, and I’ve made a lot of progress towards leaving my fearfulness in the past! My energy level increased once I was comfortable in my foster home to around 6-8. · SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. I also know the fun commands ‘high 5’, ‘paw’, and ‘stop’, and I can open door handles, so please keep the doors locked, so I don’t go exploring and get lost or hurt. / My crate manners were good in the prison/foster training program as well as in my foster home. / My potty manners have been good at Mostly Mutts and in my foster home where my foster has trained me to ring a bell when I need to go out! · LIKES/DISLIKES: I love toys and treats, but I love my people most of all. Whether we’re heading out on adventures or cuddling on the couch, any time spent with my people is my favorite kind of time, and I know I’ll bond deeply with my new family as we discover all kinds of fun things to enjoy together. / I don’t like being restrained or hugged. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise and training. · MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. Going to the vet stresses me, so I will likely need to be pre-medicated before vet visits. I’ve started on an inexpensive anxiety medication to help me with shelter stress, just ask about this please. I’m looking for a great family to love and be loved by! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
