y back road in Lee County VA. Their shelter is very full and euthanizing for space so the finder held onto them for the almost 3 weeks it took for a rescue (us) to step up and save them! And we are so so happy we said yes to these hound babies - even though we are a pit bull rescue! Because they are by far some of the best babies we have in rescue!!! Toby is such a sweetheart! He loves to be near his people & is a class A snuggler. He entertains himself easily with a toy or chew bone. Toby loves to play with the other puppy & dogs in the foster home. He loves everyone he meets & has never met a stranger! He is crate trained and also house trained. Toby is a great puppy! Toby is a joyful, tail-wagging hound with freckles and a heart shaped imprint right on his brow! This happy boy wakes up every day ready to make friends, explore the world, and soak up all the love he can get. If you're looking for a dog who will greet you with a “good morning!” (he’s a talker!) and a wagging tail every single time you walk through the door, Toby is your guy. Toby loves other dogs and is happiest when he has a furry friend to play with. He also does wonderfully with kids, making him a great addition to a family home where he can join in on backyard adventures, walks, and cuddle time after a long day of fun. He’s also crate and potty trained at only 10 months old! Like most hounds, Toby enjoys sniffing out new smells and exploring his surroundings, talking to the squirrels and the birds, but his favorite place is right by his people. He’s the kind of dog who brings sunshine wherever he goes and quickly becomes everyone’s best friend. Things we know about Toby (Tobias, as my husband has nicknamed him) • he is not a fan of squirrels, yells at them all the time and wants to chase them — also has incredible eyesight to see squirrels in trees • will talk (bark) at everyone in the neighborhood, he just likes to say hi! • biiiig toy guy — LOVES toys: squeakers, super chewers, he’s a fan of all! • doesn’t always understand personal space, ex: still learning that you can’t take a toy out of another dog’s mouth… with that, he’s confident and not scared at all of other dogs and LOVES to play and do zoomies in the yard with his friends • still learning how to walk his best on a leash, LOVES to go on walks • perfect gentleman overnight in his crate and in the house (fully potty trained) • biiiig snuggler, LOVES to cuddle! • he sits on command and is good when we need to clean his paws after a rainy/muddy walk • he gives kisses too! His adoption fee is $375 and includes age appropriate vaccines, deworming, microchip and neuter. To adopt go to .braginc under forms for more info email bragincinfogmail

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
