ost dogs ever should — and somehow, she’s still pure love. Baby is a 5-year-old Pit Bull / Boxer mix with soft white fur, adorable brown ears, and freckles on her belly that match her gentle soul. She’s currently in a loving foster home, but she’s still waiting for a family of her very own. Early in foster care, Baby experienced something heartbreaking — she was attacked by another dog in a home that was supposed to be safe. Through it all, Baby showed just how special she is. She didn’t fight back. She wasn’t aggressive. And she didn’t let it harden her heart. She healed, kept trusting, and today she is still dog-friendly, loving, and eager for connection. Now that she’s safe, Baby is thriving. She’s house-trained, crate-trained, kid-friendly, and walks beautifully on a leash. She knows sit and shake (with both paws!), loves car rides, and settles easily into home life. Her greatest joy? Fetch. Give her a tennis ball and she’s in her happy place — bringing it back every time, tail wagging, eyes sparkling, hoping for just one more throw. When playtime is over, Baby transforms into a cuddle bug, happiest curled up beside her person for a quiet night of love and companionship. Despite everything she’s been through, Baby is still hopeful. She still believes her person is out there — someone who will see her for the incredible dog she is today. About Baby: 5 years old Pit Bull / Boxer mix Spayed, microchipped, UTD on vaccines Heartworm negative House & crate trained Kid-friendly Dog and Cat-friendly Great on leash Loves fetch, car rides, and cuddles Baby’s adoption fee is $275, covering her spay, vaccinations, dewormer, first dose of heartworm prevention, and microchip. Baby has proven that even after hardship, love can still win. Could you be the forever family she’s been waiting for? Apply at legacyhumanesociety/adoptfoster/adoption-application, and her foster mom will be in touch. We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from LHS, please complete an online application at legacyhumanesociety/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ and we will contact you asap about the status of your application.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
