troducing Posy! We have her listed as a 1 and a half year old Poodle mix but she has quite the playful puppy personality so we think she’s probably younger than that. Posy comes from Juarez Mexico and we think there is a chance she could be mixed with a Bedlington Terrier as she seems to have some of their unique characteristics, one among them being almost zero shedding. This is the dog you want if you enjoy a fur free house! Posy is around 35 pounds. We have loved having Posy in our home so much that it’s taken us almost 3 months to post her for adoption! But we know we have to make some room if we are going to save more dogs so we are on the lookout for a dream home for our darling girl. Posy is very loyal and protective of her pregnant foster mom, she is always checking in to make she is doing okay. Posy loves her foster sibling dogs so much and wants to play all day! Unfortunately her foster siblings are older and they get tired a lot quicker than Posy but she is very insistent. She would be great in a home with no dogs and just doting humans or a home with very playful dogs. She will need some good outlets for her energy. Posy is crate trained and house trained. She is great at using the dog door to take herself potty outside. However, if the doggy door gets shut and she has to go, she may have an accident in the house. She has become very accustomed to the dog door but could easily be trained to alert someone if she needs to go potty in a house without a dog door. Posy is as soft as can be and is a huge snuggle bug! She lets her foster mom hold her like a baby and she loves to cuddle in bed! If she doesn’t get to sleep next to her foster parents and pack then she gets whiny but as long as she gets to be in her crate in the same room then she sleeps like a little lamb all night long. Posy doesn’t love bath time but she tolerates it quite well. Posy has met quite a few older kids ages 8 and up and loves to rough house with them! A few important things to note: as cute as this little shaggy fluff ball is she does require some grooming so she doesn’t get mats, this could mostly just be a minimal as brushing her every couple of days. Her fur also hilariously straight up and covers her eyes so that will need a trim from time to time so she can see. Posy is in a bit of a chewing phase, her toys usually suffice but being in a puppy proofed house for the time being would be ideal. She also does great in her crate, that’s where she goes when we can’t be around to keep an eye on her. Posy travels like a dream in the car! But she still needs some leash work, she gets better with every walk. She also needs some training with recall outside if you are ever in an off leash area. Posy thinks chickens could be a tasty snack but has the potential to do well in a house with a dog savvy cat. Posy can take a little time to warm up to new people especially men. She will need patience and time to adjust in a new home but she always comes around and is as sweet as can be. Dogs do not come any cuter than this little girl! If you think you are the dream home this darling girl deserves the apply to meet her today! bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
