Bo has shown us just how resilient, loving, and adaptable he truly is. Through all the changes, he has remained a sweet and people-focused companion who clearly thrives on human connection. Bo has been described as a bit pushy at times, but this seems to come more from enthusiasm and excitement than anything else. He enjoys engaging with people and shows great potential, especially as a greeter, where his friendly and social personality can really shine. With continued guidance and consistency, particularly with steering and learning his “brakes,” Bo is expected to make steady progress. He is already showing a strong willingness to learn—he takes treats gently and is attentive to his handler, which are great building blocks for future training. While he doesn’t yet know basic cues like “sit,” his eagerness to engage suggests he’ll pick them up quickly in a structured environment. Bo has also had the opportunity to spend time in a night foster. He did exceptionally well. He settled in comfortably, showing a calm and affectionate demeanor. He was described as cuddly and very people-oriented, often choosing to stay close for attention and companionship. He handled being crated overnight without issue, which is a wonderful sign of his ability to adapt to a home routine. Day-to-day handling with Bo has been easy and enjoyable. He is cooperative when getting in and out of his space and is generally easy to walk. While he can have a strong pull on leash at times, this again appears to be due to excitement rather than reactivity, and he remains manageable. With a bit of continued leash work, he has the potential to become an excellent walking companion. He does occasionally jump up on people, but this is simply his way of seeking attention and can be improved with basic manners training and consistency. Bo is a very sweet, calm, and affectionate boy who clearly bonds closely with his people. He has already shown that he can adjust well to new environments and routines, and he continues to demonstrate positive behaviors that will help him succeed outside of the shelter. Bo is the kind of dog who will flourish in a home where he can receive love, guidance, and companionship. With just a little continued training and structure, he is sure to become a loyal, well-mannered, and deeply devoted companion.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
