A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.

Date into Rescue: 10/29/2025
Reason for being in rescue: Penny was surrendered by her breeder to a SC shelter, from the shelter she came to us
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Penny is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 11/12/25 Penny had a dental with 4 extractions. She also had a deep ear cleaning. Penny will need regular (at least annual) dental check ups.

Fence needed? Not necessarily although she is not by any means well versed in leash walking and especially not on pottying on a leash. If adopted to a non fenced home, it will take some time and patience to teach this skill. Penny is a busy girl when she is in the yard and loves the freedom of a fenced in space. First preference will be given to single family fenced in yards but to the right person with the right plan in place for some fun off leash romps on a weekly basis, we can discuss a non fenced in area.
What kind of home would be best for me? Penny is a retired breeder dog but based on her behavior now, she has put that life behind her and is ready to be a spoiled, pampered princess pet of a poodle. As far as we know, Penny has never lived without Cindy and while we would still love to place them together, after 3 months they are both now independent enough to be parted. Penny is very human focused. She always wants to be number one. Number one to be fed, number one to be petted, number one out of the crate, number one in your heart. Penny is definitely a leader dog and is looking to lead a human into a marvelous relationship between dog and person.
Penny has never been alone. That means we're looking for someone who is home more than they are away. If you work 8+ hours out of the home, we do not think Penny is that independent. The trade off to this would be to adopt Penny with her bestie if you do work all day - they have each other for company.
Overall, Penny is a sweet and gregarious girl who wants a home of her own. She gets along well with other large and small dogs although occasionally, she will show another small dog who is boss (her). When that happens we simply say "Penny stop" sharply and she goes back to being a happy go lucky soul who loves to bounce.
What is my personality like? Penny is the leader of the pack. Happy, affectionate and ready to be large in charge of whatever world she finds herself in.
Penny is strong and active. She loves to be at her people's feet and when you are home, you'll have a tiny satellite surrounding you and checking in what you are doing. Penny is also a "door dasher" - the minute a door opens, she is through it and can't wait to see what is on the other side. If the door closes, she can bounce up a good 3' trying to see what she can see and convince you to open that door.
Penny has been very good in the car although with us, they are not riding loose. They are riding in the crate for safety. Speaking of crates, Penny currently sleeps in a crate and keeps her crate clean at night. We can't guarantee house training, so our suggestion is a crate in your bedroom for the first 30 days, then transition to you bed if you want. We think she would enjoy night time snuggles very much once they know your routine.
Penny is trained to pee pads. We use washable ones here and if the door is not open fast enough, they are sprinting for the nearest pee pad to do business especially first thing. I know some people do not like pee pads in the house but you need to know that has been their routine and changing it will take time and loving routine on your part. Penny will potty outside if taken outside first thing and if you stay with her. Then during the day, give her ample opportunity. She will get it eventually but this habit of peeing on cloth inside will take some time to change if you want to change. it. For dogs trained to pee pads, it means you have to be careful with having throw rugs because they look like pee pads to a dog.
How do I act when I first meet new people? Very friendly and if your in a chair, you'll very soon have a snuggle of poodle in your lap.
Other tips and tidbits: Penny is estimated at 7 years old. We celebrate her birthday 09/23/2018.
Penny arrived in rescue in October. At the time, she was with Cindy and the two were inseparable. They ate together, slept together, went potty together and were often found wound around each other, watching the world go by from the safety of a dog bed. As they've become more confident in their lives with us, that cement bond has loosened, allowing each girl to realize they could thrive on their own. While we think they will always be good friends and would love to go together, it's not now strictly required.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
