am so grateful to be on the journey to my new home with their help. I spent some time in the prison/foster training program off-site and learned a lot! I also had fun spending the night in a temporary foster home. I’m back at Mostly Mutts now, waiting to find a great home – perhaps with you? • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I want to be your only dog, please. I am not reactive when I see other dogs at Mostly Mutts on my walks, but I just don’t want to live with one. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I can be shy initially, but I warm up to people given some time, a calm voice and slower movements. Once comfortable, I am a real sweetheart and a fun girl. My lovable face is sure to charm you. In fact, I was the ‘quintessential bather’ according to the volunteer who gives us our shelter baths. I was calm, relaxed and content with it all – shampoo, rinse and ear cleaning. They call me a ‘gentle gem’, and I bet you will agree when you experience my sweet and loving nature as well as my fun energy. My temp. foster said I’m a great listener, very smart, and well-mannered. I was excited at first in my new surroundings, running all around, but I settled in nicely after my first night. / My energy level 6-8. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. I’m a smart and obedient-natured girl. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts as well as in a temp. foster home I visited. / My potty habits have been good on the shelter schedule, as well as in a temp. foster home I visited so hopefully that will be the case in my new home, too. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I enjoy spending time with people once I know you are my friend. Toys are fun – especially soft toys and balls, and you will smile when you see my playful side. In my temp. foster home, I liked being held and getting lots of pets and kisses. I’m sure we’ll find lots of other things we will enjoy doing together. / New situations can be stressful for me, so I would not want to be rushed as I get used to my new home. When I am frightened by something, I recover quickly. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I am looking for a great home where I will be a cherished family member! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
