Dog Breed: American Bulldog. Hi, my name is Brad, and yes — I know I’m adorable. You’re welcome. I’m basically the total package: strong, handsome, and surprisingly chill for

a guy with this much muscle. I can keep up with an active family (walks! playtime! adventures!), but I’m not the kind of dog who needs to run a marathon before breakfast. I believe in a healthy balance of fun and couch time. Kids are my favorite humans. They’re fun, they drop snacks, and they’re excellent at giving belly rubs. I’m gentle, tolerant, and very good at being your loyal little shadow. Once you’re my person (or people), that’s it — you’re stuck with me forever. I take my job as 'Professional Love-Giver' very seriously. I’ve got all the classic American Bulldog perks: confidence without the drama, brains without the attitude, and a big heart in a sturdy and strong body. I’m very smart, eager to learn, and always happy to show off my good manners (especially if treats are involved). At the end of the day, you’ll find me wherever my family is — on a walk, supervising snack time, or pretending I’m not hogging the couch. I’m loyal, loving, calm, and just the right amount of goofy. Basically, I’m your new best friend. When can I move in? *located in Lindsay Ideal Home Requirements for Brad Brad would thrive in a detached or single-family home in any type of neighbourhood. He is friendly and curious with people and dogs, though new things can make him briefly nervous until he gains confidence. An active family with children aged 5+ is ideal. Brad adores kids, but he can jump or get mouthy when excited, so older children who can participate in training are best. He may do well with active, strong seniors, but children remain his biggest joy. Brad does best in a home where someone is home most of the time, or where absences are managed with enrichment (Kongs, sniff mats) or possibly a calm, balanced dog companion. He is showing signs of separation anxiety and is not suited to long periods alone. A home with other dogs of similar size would be appropriate, as he can be “bully pushy.” He is not recommended for homes with cats, small animals, or farm animals due to prey drive. Brad needs daily exercise (1–2 hours) and mental stimulation. He would benefit from ongoing obedience training and would likely excel at enrichment activities such as scent work or agility. Dog parks are not recommended. He is fully house trained, knows basic commands, and has no history of resource guarding or leash aggression. Potential adopters should be aware of excitement-related jumping, mouthiness, and separation anxiety, all of which are actively being worked on. Brad may have food sensitivities or allergies, so adopters should be prepared for dietary management. Overall, Brad is a loving, intelligent, people-focused puppy who will thrive in an engaged, patient home committed to training, structure, and companionship.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
