once you have won her heart, she is a loyal companion who won't want to leave your side. She has been blossoming in foster care and settling in very well to life indoors. Biscuit weighs about 10lbs. Biscuit was found as a stray and brought to our local animal shelter. She was terrified at the shelter, so she was transferred to us so that she can wait in a cozy foster home until she finds her forever family. She has adjusted very well to being out of the shelter and is a darling girl who can't wait to be your new BFF. Biscuit can take a few minutes to warm up to new people, but has been doing great making new friends and having visitors come to her foster home. She is an affectionate girl who loves to curl up on your lap for some love and is happy to keep you company while you work from home. She loves her walks and would be a wonderful walking companion who needs a little buddy to join them for adventures around the neighborhood. Biscuit is still learning all of her basic manners, but has been doing great at picking up new things. Biscuit loves other small dogs, and having confident dog friends around seems to help her warm up to new people faster. She also has been loving being the spoiled only dog in her foster home, so she could do well as an only dog, too. We haven't seen Biscuit around cats before, but she may do well living with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction. Due to her shy personality, Biscuit would do best with older kids or in an adult-only home. Biscuit has been doing well with her housetraining, but isn't completely trained yet, so her new family will need to be patient with her while she is still learning. Biscuit has been doing very well with her crate training and has been fine being left for short periods. With daily exercise, Biscuit may do well living in an apartment. Biscuit is such a sweet girl, and she deserves her happy ever after. If she sounds like the scruffy pup you need in your life, submit an application today! Biscuit's adoption fee is $250. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogsyolospca. For more general questions, please see our website at .yolospca.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
