o be rescued by one of our foster dads who lives in the area. Violet is truly a lucky pup, both for being brought to safety and for gaining immediate entry into our rescue, where we will ensure she finds the very best home. Her foster dad notified the local shelter and posted across social media, but no one came forward to claim this sweet girl. Violet recently visited our vet, who estimated her to be about 6 months old and weighing 30 lbs. She received a clean bill of health and will be going in for her spay surgery soon. Violet is currently being fostered with an attentive foster mom and dad, a 4-year-old child, and multiple cats. She also enjoys regular playdates with family dogs. Her foster dad is taking her out and about to ensure she gets plenty of socialization so she’ll be ready for her future family. She's getting comfortable with the crate and still working on house training. Like most young bullies, Violet is full of energy, but she’s also a total snuggle bug who loves her humans. FOSTER DAD UPDATE - 12/28/25 All is going well with Violet. She's getting better with her crate time and sometimes goes in by herself to have a moment. She's been doing really well with housebreaking and hasn't had any incidents for over a week now. She's getting a little better on a leash and seems to prefer the martingale to a harness. She doesn't pull, but does get easily distracted and will freeze in place when she sees or hears something that gets her attention, which is frequently. Leash skills are still a work in progress. ********** We are looking for a fun, active family with a flexible schedule for Violet, someone who is ready to continue the socialization and basic training that all puppies need. Apply today! BREED ESTIMATE: American Staffordshire Terrier Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 30 lbs (will be 50-60lbs fully grown) APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 6 months old COAT TYPE: Short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425.00 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/will be spayed and microchipped LOCATION: Manassas, VA FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to adopt.worthydog and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to foster.worthydog and fill out an application. Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue that primarily adopts to families in the DC Metro area.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
