mp;bull; Southeast GA Typhoon is a sweet soul who loves being close to his people. His calm nature, combined with his eagerness to please, makes him an ideal companion for someone wanting a loyal dog without the intense Malinois drive. He has a wonderful off switch and is perfectly content to relax by your side after a walk or bit of playtime. He bonds deeply once he trusts you and thrives in a calm, predictable environment. Typhoon shines at: • Crate training – he does well in a crate when alone and all night, sometimes putting himself to bed • Easy Correction – he responds quickly to gentle redirection, respects consistent boundaries, and wants to please. • His Person – once he bonds, he trusts his person and is comfortable with almost anything: sharing toys, having food & bones taken, and letting them touch and inspect paws, ears, mouth. • Walks – when leashing up he is focused, sits, and waits patiently. On leash he is polite, adjusting his position beside, behind, or in front depending on his comfort level. On the return home, he gets most excited and may need light reminders to avoid pulling. • Shadow Dog – he is content to just be near his person Typhoon’s favorite things: • Snacks – treats make him eager to learn and engage. • Squeaky Toys – he loves noisy toys, especially squeaky tennis balls…though they don’t survive him for long! • Scratches – thrives on attention, including cuddles, pets, and brushing. Typhoon’s practicing: • Food Patience – has learned to take treats gently but still gets excited at feeding time. Enrichment tools like snuffle mats or frozen kibble Kongs slow him down and practice good manners. • Trusting Others – warms up gradually to strangers (snacks help!) and does best with calm, low-pressure meetings. • Vehicle Loadup – he is nervous getting in the car and rushes to exit, so needs patient coaxing or lifting in. Once settled in the backseat or crate he rides comfortably. Typhoon is still learning about: • Kids – his experience with children is unknown. • Other animals – he seems to do well with other dogs, but his reaction to cats is unknown. On walks, his interest in wildlife and critters is mild- sometimes curious, sometimes unsure, and often indifferent. Typhoon’s hoping this holiday season is curled up in a home of his own by your side. All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and 6 month subscription. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
