so that he hasn’t barked once since coming into foster care. Routine is his comfort zone, and consistency helps him feel safe and settled. Once Ozzy knows what to expect, he melts right into the rhythm of the home and becomes a steady, peaceful companion. His energy level is firmly couch-potato status. Ozzy prefers a cozy day indoors over busy outings, and low activity suits him perfectly. He’s not one to demand entertainment—he’s happiest lounging nearby, covered up with his beloved tortilla blanket, quietly soaking in the world around him. A fenced yard is plenty for his needs, and walks are still a work in progress as he continues to build confidence. Ozzy is affectionate in a gentle, understated way. He doesn’t mind cuddling with kids or adults and blends seamlessly into family life, offering just the right amount of love without being overwhelming. He absolutely loves car rides and is always happy to tag along. When it comes to treats, chicken feet and pumpkin are his favorites, and food is a great motivator for him. He can be a little stubborn—if Ozzy doesn’t want to move, he’ll politely but firmly stand his ground—but it’s more endearing than challenging. He is fully house trained, does well in a crate, rides calmly in the car, and is muzzle trained. Leash manners are hit-or-miss, and he may refuse to walk if he’s feeling unsure. Ozzy can be fearful of thunderstorms, rain, high winds, fireworks, loud noises, nighttime, and new environments. During bad weather, he needs reassurance and someone willing to cuddle him until he feels safe again. Ozzy has done well meeting other dogs and was friendly and kind when introduced to a large dog. He currently lives with a cat and has occasionally lunged toward them but has never shown aggression, and both largely coexist without issue. He has been around many children of all ages at once, including toddlers and babies. While he has tolerated climbing, pulling, and cuddling with remarkable patience, he has given a single growl as a warning when physically hurt—never escalating beyond that. He has also remained calm and unbothered by adult strangers entering the home, even during the middle of the night. Medically, Ozzy has some growths on his elbows, is undergoing heartworm treatment, takes joint supplements, has a limp in his front leg, is still underweight, and is missing his top front row of teeth. He has spent much of his foster time healing, and there are likely many joys and activities he has yet to discover once he’s feeling his best. Ozzy’s ideal home would be calm and loving, preferably with adults or one to two children, though he can adapt to busier households. He thrives when he’s part of daily life and would do best with someone who is home often. A low-energy household without stairs, with good lighting and a fully gated yard, would suit him well—he can be curious about slipping under fences. Above all, Ozzy needs a home that values routine, patience, and companionship, and someone who will cherish his quiet, steady presence. He is an old soul ready to be deeply loved. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
