Dog Breed: French Brittany (medium coat). Meet Monty — Proof That Age Is Just a Number! Monty may be 10 years old, but he has the spirit (and leash enthusiasm!) of a youngster! This sweet,

silly French Brittany keeps everyone smiling with his joyful energy and gentle heart. At mealtimes, Monty will woo-woo sing and bounce with excitement if you’re not fast enough—but the moment you ask him to sit, he becomes a perfect gentleman and waits politely for his food. When he wakes up, Monty starts his day with a burst of energy, zooming around the yard and checking out all the morning activity. He absolutely LOVES toys, especially soft stuffies, which he often carries around for comfort. He has a few favorites he proudly squeaks throughout the day. Monty’s routine is wonderfully consistent. As the sun begins to set, he naturally settles in for the evening. He enjoys chewing on a Benebone or savoring a post-dinner Greenie “dessert.” His teeth are in excellent shape; very little tartar and no “dog breath,” which is rare for a senior pup! At bedtime, he will snuggle right in next to you, or he will go in his crate without making a fuss. One of Monty’s happiest places is on the couch right next to you, soaking up pets and ear scratches. He is incredibly affectionate and thrives on companionship. Despite not receiving the love he deserved in his past life, Monty is deeply loyal to the people in his foster home. When he trusts you, he’ll lean his whole body against you. This is a sign he has chosen YOU as “his person.” Monty loves watching birds and squirrels out the window. He’ll alert you to backyard visitors with a bark, a whine, or even a little excited shiver! He is vocal! He cannot live with cats or small animals. He does have typical “old man” cloudy eyes and slightly reduced depth perception, so he will need a secure 6-foot fenced yard where he can safely enjoy his favorite hobby: backyard critter patrol. A single-story home or one with minimal stairs would be ideal for him. Monty truly needs to be the apple of someone’s eye. He’s best suited for a quiet, adult-only home without young children or grandchildren. He does enjoy respectful teenagers and has done very well with them in his foster home. Monty has some anxiety in the car, so he is not eligible for a long-distance transport (canine railroad). We are looking for a home in Colorado or within a few hours of Denver. If you think your home is the perfect match for this affectionate, joyful, loyal boy, please apply today. Monty is ready to give his whole heart to the person who gives him the loving forever home he truly deserves. The adoption fee for Monty, who lives in Highlands Ranch, CO is $250, which helps offset our vetting and allows NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful family members. If you are interested in making Monty a part of your family, please complete the on-line application by visiting .nbran . Please note if you are 65 and over you may adopt Monty for a reduced adoption fee of $150! Your state coordinator/volunteer will conduct a phone interview, home visit and vet check as part of the approval process. Once all 3 have been approved, we will begin the matching process. Special Needs: Positive for Tick Borne Disease; Anaplasma. He has already completed his 30 days of Doxycycline. He may always test posit for this, but he is symptom free and has NO issues. He has seen the vet and been given a "clean bill of health".

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
