This small Chihuahua mix is a young; female; weighing in at 6.7 lbs. She is estimated to be around 6 months old; and has 2 baby teeth that will soon fall out. Maisy was rescued from the streets of Mexico. Not much else is known about her situation there. Maisy is currently in a foster home with other dogs and is being crate trained. She is potty pad trained, and is working on her leash work. Her personality and quirks are adorable. Her personality is needy for love, pets, and being held. She is very timid and shy at first; but does well when being held by all people. She has been cat and kid tested. She does well with other dogs, but prefers a humans non-stop attention. She is not a fan of being in a car carrier at first, but she relaxes when driving with her human. If you are looking for a needy dog to love you unconditionally, then Maisy is for you. Apartment dwellers be warned, she is vocal when you leave her, but after 15 minutes she settles into her crate and waits for you to get home. Although she is being fostered with 4 other dogs, she hasn’t learned how to play with them. Maisy is a silly girl when it comes to being with you, like when she jumps onto the bed and the sofa to be with you. She will even jump a 3 foot pen to be with her foster. She’s an explorer and loves to sniff on adventures. Maisy eats very well. She receives food donations from The Farmers Dog. With her adoption you will receive a promo code to receive a free box so that she can transition to her new home with ease. Submit your application to meet this adorable little girl who is looking to be spoiled for life. ! She is spayed and up to date on vaccination. Her adoption fee is $350. A refundable training deposit of $100 will be also due upon adoption. Training must be provided in a timely fashion to ensure our pups become the best canine citizens. The training deposit will be refundable within 3 months of the adoption date. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application today! All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
