on. The application can be found at bfpa/adopt/dogs/dog-app/ . Michi is a 2-year-old, 53-lb Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull mix with a big heart! She is incredibly people-oriented; she's wiggly, affectionate, and genuinely delighted to meet everyone she encounters. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who wants to be by your side, Michi may be your girl. Michi (whose Japanese name means beautiful wise child!) has a moderate energy level and enjoys a nice balance of activity and relaxation. Her favorite things include going for walks, playing with a larger canine buddy in her foster home, cuddling with her people, and settling in for a good snooze. She is housebroken, very quiet (97% of the time!), and can comfortably go 4–5 hours between potty breaks. With other dogs, Michi does best with thoughtful introductions and time to adjust. She seems to prefer larger, playful male dogs and does well with both of the male dogs in her foster home. That said, she would truly shine as an only dog, where she can fully relax and focus on bonding with her person. She does wonderfully with cats. After some initial curiosity, she now happily ignores the resident kitty in her foster home. Michi isn’t a big fan of the crate, but she will go in for a treat and sleeps quietly in her crate overnight. She fairly quiet and doesn’t require a yard, though she would love regular walks and companionship. She is currently used to having people home during the day, so ideally she would love a home where her people are not away for long periods. An ideal home for Michi would be a single person, couple, or family with older children. She is still young at just 2 years old, so she can get excited and lively; a home without small children would work best. She takes treats very gently and has a wonderfully sweet, loving nature. Michi is deeply loyal and affectionate, and we believe she would be naturally protective of her people if needed. Michi is spayed, vaccinated, and ready to form a deep, meaningful bond with someone who can offer her stability and love. In return, she will give endless affection, devotion, and companionship. Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. Applicants should live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions. We therefore prefer that applicants live within an hours drive of Cary NC. For the perfect home for Michi, we will consider applicants who live a bit further away. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING MICHI ? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
