oves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and snuggle, you could miss it.” And he fully expects you to stop… frequently… so he can lay directly on top of you. At home, Ferris is incredibly affectionate and happiest when he’s as close to his people as physically possible. Personal space? Never heard of it. He’s loyal, intuitive, and always tuned in to what’s happening around him. He also takes his role as household protector seriously and will let you know if something seems out of place. Consider him your very committed (and vocal) head of security. Ferris is also ready for adventure. He would make an excellent running or walking partner and loves getting out and experiencing the world with his person. He has a fun, playful side too. Ferris lives for his rubber toys and a good game of tug, and he’s wonderfully polite about it. He’s quick to grab a toy to play and has shown that he keeps his chewing focused on appropriate items. If you hand him a toy, you’ve got an instant best friend. When it comes to other animals, Ferris has shown positive signs. He has been around a cat and is curious and interested, but respectful… more “trying to make a friend” than anything else. With proper introductions and guidance, he has the potential to live successfully with feline companions. With other dogs, Ferris has shown he can do well, especially with proper introductions or in off-leash settings. On leash, though, he can get a bit overwhelmed and tends to be vocal when passing other dogs. With continued training and a confident handler, he has all the tools to keep improving. And because every good story has a plot twist… Ferris has shown he can be a bit of an athlete, including once clearing a four-foot fence in a foster home. Because of this, a secure setup is important. He has done very well on a tie-out or lead and previously lived successfully without a fenced yard. Ferris is looking for a home that will embrace his affectionate nature, appreciate his protective instincts, and maybe share a few adventures along the way. In return, he’ll bring loyalty, personality, and a whole lot of love… usually delivered at very close range. Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website .wagsmn and fill out an Adoption Application. Once the application is processed, a Wags representative will contact you, answer any questions you may have, and set up a time/location for a meet and greet! A home visit is required prior to adoption. Thank you for choosing to adopt! Breed and temperament determination: Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue attempts to determine breed and temperament using a combination of looks, information provided to us at intake, and our experience with the animal while in our Rescue. We do not guarantee this determination.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
