doption application so we can learn more about you and your household. Bart #2 | 4-year-old Chi/Pug Mix | A pint-sized cuddle bug with a playful spark Bart is a sweet, people-oriented little guy who loves being close to his humans and soaking up all the affection he can get. At just under 12 pounds, he’s the perfect size for snuggling on the couch, but he also has a playful side and enjoys being part of the action. Bart is house trained on a consistent potty schedule and has had little to no accidents in foster care. On leash, Bart does fairly well—he may pull a bit at first and likes to stop and sniff as he gets familiar with his surroundings, but he settles in quickly once he knows the routine. He’s done well meeting other dogs so far, especially those his size or smaller. Larger dogs can make him a bit shy initially, but with slow, thoughtful introductions, he warms up nicely and becomes friendly and playful. Bart has also done well around outdoor cats, mostly ignoring them, with the occasional playful chase that seems more curious than anything else. Bart does best with structure and routine and continues to learn boundaries in his foster home. When left alone, he may whine briefly because he wants to be with his people, but he calms down once he realizes everything is okay. He’s clever and curious, sometimes hopping a baby gate to be closer to his humans or fellow pups. With consistency and reassurance, his confidence continues to grow. He’s not crate trained, as he hasn’t needed one in foster care. This lovable boy has a medium energy level and is happy with a couple of 30-minute walks a day or a walk paired with some yard play or fetch. He enjoys toys, chewing bones, playing fetch, and joining in zoomie sessions with other dogs. Bart is food motivated and especially loves treats, chicken, and chew toys. Some of his cutest habits include hiding his toys, resting his head on you, offering his paw for attention, and happily rolling over for belly rubs. Bart’s ideal home is a loving, patient one where he can feel secure and included as part of the family. A home with another friendly dog would be a big plus, though it’s not required. He may be a little shy at first, especially in new situations, but once he feels safe, his affectionate, playful personality truly shines. With gentle guidance, routine, and lots of love, Bart will make a devoted and joyful companion. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
