amp;bull; Must Be Adopted Together Birdie and Minnie are a tiny, enchanting team who prove that love, trust, and joy don’t require sight. These two beautiful girls are blind, but once they feel safe in their space, you’d never know it. They learn their surroundings quickly, explore with confidence, and will happily follow their foster parents around the house and yard like the sweetest little parade. They’re world‑class snugglers, generous with kisses, and absolutely devoted to their humans. Meet the Girls Birdie ~5 years old 9 lbs Possibly a Chihuahua/Spaniel mix (but who really knows!) The steady leader of the pair — Minnie’s guide, comfort, and maybe even her mom Minnie ~2 years old 5.5 lbs Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix with a gloriously fluffy coat that makes her look bigger than she is The tiny shadow who follows Birdie’s lead with total trust Both girls are spayed, had dentals just last week, and have been evaluated by an eye specialist at Sage, who believes they’ve been blind since birth. A Bond Like No Other Birdie and Minnie are inseparable. They play together, sleep curled up together, and even share a food bowl. If Birdie does it, Minnie is right behind her. Their connection is deep, comforting, and absolutely heart‑melting. What They Need Because they are blind, Birdie and Minnie can startle at new sounds and need time to adjust to unfamiliar environments. They thrive with gentle voices, predictable routines, and a safe setup. It is ideal for blind dogs to have a patient sighted dog in the home. We'd love for the future home to have a gentle sighted dog. A few things their future family should be ready for: Baby gates for any stairs A protected, consistent home layout A cozy safe space (we can provide a pen) Patience as they map out their new world Experience with visually impaired dogs is preferred but not required — their foster family will guide you through everything you need to know. Meet‑and‑Greets Birdie and Minnie are currently in Palo Alto, and all meet‑and‑greets will take place in their foster home where they feel secure and confident. These girls are pure sweetness, resilience, and devotion wrapped in two tiny, fluffy packages. If you’re ready to open your heart to a bonded pair who will love you endlessly, Birdie and Minnie are waiting. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for BIRDIE AND MINNIE is $6 00. If you are interested in adopting BIRDIE AND MINNIE , please complete our online adoption application at .gratefuldogsrescue/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. See our other available dogs at .gratefuldogsrescue/available-dogs/

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
