y girl with lots of love to share! I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control, and I couldn’t be happier to be part of the Mostly Mutts family! I’m in a wonderful foster home while I wait to meet my new family. I came in heartworm positive, but I’ll be treated for that soon and hope to be with my new family before treatment starts. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: There’s a large dog in my foster home and we coexist well. I don’t play with her; we just do our own thing. I also met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and did well with them though I didn’t play with them or show any aggression. So, if you have a nice dog at home that is not looking for a playmate, let’s meet! / I sniffed the kitties out of curiosity initially, but other than that, I just ignore them. All cats are different so I’m not sure how I would do with another kitty. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: My foster says my personality is unbelievably sweet - I’m a little angel who’s adorable. I follow my foster mom wherever she goes because all I really want is to be snuggled, hugged, and loved; I’m definitely an attention hound! I’m used to being on the furniture and tend to gravitate toward women a bit more than men. The shelter volunteers say I was very sweet and calm during my bath, just needing a little reassurance at first, and even though I was shy and a bit scared at the shelter, I was still a very good girl. / Energy level: 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m working on the ‘stay’ command in my foster home and when I was at the shelter, I knew the ‘come’ command. You can teach me even more. / My foster reports that I’m fabulous in my crate! It’s in the living room with the door open during the day, and I like going in and out on my own. I keep it clean and enjoy the cozy blankets and a few toys inside. / My potty manners have been great in my foster home! I quickly learned that the other dog goes to the sliding glass doors when she needs to potty, so I do that now, too! • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love following my person around and being a couch potato. I must have been fed people food in my previous home, as I’m a bit overweight, but I’m working on that now. I still try to convince my fosters to share their food - though they don’t, since it’s not good for me. I enjoy a few hard chew toys, but more than anything, I just want to be with my human, soaking up all the love, hugs, and kisses. / I’m not a fan of sudden movements or loud noises, and I wasn’t comfortable being picked up by a man I didn’t know (I do have a little preference to women) and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. Since I wasn't kept on heartworm prevention in my previous home, I'm HW positive. The good news is that I'll be treated for that in early March and Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of that treatment with their vet, so local adoption please. I hope to be with my family before treatment starts! A grade 3/6 heart murmur was heard on one side which may be from the heart worms and may go away in time, and I’ll be checked for it again, so just ask about that. I need to lose some weight, so I’ve started on the salt-free green bean diet – just ask about this. I have moderate tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. I’m a relaxed girl looking for a wonderful home! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
