days and let us know that she was good with their dog and young kids. Of course, when she came into our care, we vaccinated her, spayed her and put her up for adoption! Mochi spent 5 months waiting for a family to rescue her from the shelter, but no one came, and Mochi was terrified. She is a dog that cowered in her cage, and she was so fearful of strangers that she greeted people with her head down, tail tucked and she would tremble. She has bonded with one staff member in particular that sees a completely different part of Mochi that the general public doesn't: she plays outside, has the zoomies and this staff member was able to walk Mochi through PetSmart with confidence... but as soon as Mochi returned to the shelter, she was frozen in fear all over again. We asked for a foster family, so we could see different sides of Mochi other than the fearful girl in the corner of a cage. A family stepped up for her and she was in foster with them for a month! Thanks to her foster family, Mochi is now housetrained and is learning to trust a crate. She cries when she needs to potty, and she sleeps with the 6 year old daughter overnight and has no accidents! She is crated when the family leaves for work and is learning to become more comfortable with her crate. Her current foster family has another dog and Mochi adores him! They snuggle and play together! Mochi has also met a resident cat at the groomers and she was not bothered by the cat's presence! She does wonderful with the kids at home, and is the best snuggle buddy Seriously, she loves the cuddles. Mochi is nervous of strange men and boys and is very protective of her family and HER people. If you have a lot of guests come over to your house, Mochi is not the dog for you. She will be uncomfortable. If you do have guests come over, Mochi is used to being kenneled while they stay; this is what her foster family had to do. We know it is a lot to ask to monitor when guests are coming and going so taking Mochi to a trainer would be very beneficial for her and for you as well! ✨ What Mochi Needs In Her Adopted / New Foster Home ✨ • A home that will continue to work with her on crate training • A home that is calmer and does not have frequent guests • Someone who is willing to continue to work on obedience training for basic skills and development of self-confidence would be a great idea for her • A fenced in yard is not required, however, Mochi can jump high and will run away if not attended Mochi does well with dogs, kids and does not seem bothered by cats! She is housetrained and crate trained. Her adoption fee is waived.Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at infoawlwarsaw if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
