Slowly, Brody began to realize that these humans were different. Eventually, he allowed himself to step into a backyard where we set up heat lamps and an enclosed kennel to protect him from the cold. That kennel became his safe place. For the first time in weeks, Brody could rest without fear. He grew fond of that little space because it meant warmth, safety, and choice—things he hadn’t had in a long time. But Brody’s journey didn’t end there. He was absolutely terrified of a leash. To Brody, it felt like losing control all over again. So we went at his pace. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. Every small step mattered—letting the leash be near him, touching it, standing calmly with it, learning that it didn’t mean danger. And then one day, Brody walked. Today, Brody walks on a leash—a milestone that represents so much more than movement. It represents trust. Healing. Courage.
