UPDATED BIO 3/15/2026: Ollie came to us when his owners were expecting to make several moves, and they felt it would be too stressful for him. Ollie came from an illegal breeder, so he was not socialized and is anxious about new things and people. His adopter will need to be patient with him as he gets comfortable in his new world.
Ollie may be a little guy, but he has a big personality and isn’t shy about sharing his opinions! He likes to make his presence known and carries himself with the confidence of a much larger dog.
He’s a friendly pup who may greet another dog with a quick bark or growl at first—think of it as his way of saying, “Hello, I’m here!” Once he actually gets up to meet them, he quickly shows his true colors and becomes very friendly.
When Ollie first arrived, he was clearly craving attention and wanted to always be right by our side. As he’s settled in, he’s become more relaxed and has discovered a few favorite sunny spots around the house where he enjoys lounging and soaking up the warmth.
Ollie walks beautifully on a leash and absolutely loves getting out for walks. We’ve been taking him out regularly to help establish a potty routine, and he’s doing well with consistency.
We’ve only left him home alone a few times for short periods. Like many dogs adjusting to a new environment, a little anxiety led to a few accidents. We believe that as he continues to feel more secure and settled, this will improve with time and routine.
Give Ollie a day or two to get comfortable, and he’ll happily become your permanent shadow—following you from room to room and making sure you’re never lonely.
We think Ollie would thrive in an environment where someone is home most of the time. He clearly loves being with his people. He has typical dachshund behaviors like food motivated (he likes cheese), stubborn/opinionated (play mumble when he disagrees with you) and needing a lap or to be held. He prefers his people to strangers but if you are with him, he is fine with others too. He has bonded really well with us, so once he figures out who he can trust, he will do great. Ollie does not do well with male dogs. He needs to be an only dog or possibly be with a small, young, female dog.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
