ionate, steadfast and loyal companion to their home and is a Shepherd lover's dream. Stunning and beautiful in appearance with a dignified, yet humble air about her. Skylar's soulful eyes, however, tell the story of a pup who has not always had always had the easiest life. Estimated to be between 6-8 years of age, Skylar came to us from an animal control facility in Kentucky in pretty rough shape. Her emaciated frame covered with itchy, mangy skin. Her nails overgrown to the point of curling back towards her feet, eyes and ears crusted with infection, and clearly a mother many times over. A stray who was never claimed, her past unknown but obvious it was filled with hardship and neglect. Her difficult past did not break her spirit and Skylar is filled with love and affection for all. She has spent the last several weeks in a foster home in Chicago recovering and healing from her ordeal and is now ready for her happily-ever-after. Skylar doesn't ask for much and appreciates any love and care she's shown. She is quiet and well-behaved in the home, housebroken and crate trained, and gets along well with her canine fosters siblings. She loves nothing more than snuggling up with her humans on the couch or lounging in a comfy dog bed with a Nylabone. Leisurely walks around the neighborhood are also a favorite hobby of hers but most of all she just loves being close to her people. Skylar is a people-person through and through, and will be a devoted and faithful friend to her new family. With her tender nature and loving soul, Skylar is sure to bring joy and love to her new home. Could it be with you? Come meet Skylar today and see for yourself! Skylar is being fostered in Chicago and can be seen by appointment only after an adoption application has been completed and approved. Her adoption donation to the rescue is $375. This fee helps to cover her spay, initial vaccines, microchip, and heartworm testing. Unfortunately, we cannot place holds on our dogs for any reason. Please do not submit an adoption application unless you are ready to meet and welcome a dog into your home within three days of applying. For more information or to receive an application, email palsplace1hotmail or visit palsplacerescue Adoption applications and correspondence from the rescue may end up in your spam or junk folder. If you are waiting for our reply, please check those folders regularly. • Skylar's adoption fee is $375. This fee helps to cover any necessary medical care to prepare her for adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
