or Yours! This gorgeous 1 year old girl weighs about 46 lbs and is equal parts playful sidekick and laid-back cuddle buddy. We think she may be a German Wirehaired Pointer and Poodle mix, which means you get brains, heart, and a delightfully scruffy vibe all in one package. She absolutely loves people and makes friends fast. She’s housebroken, crate trained, good on leash, and a total pro on car rides, so she’s ready to slide right into family life without the chaos. She enjoys toys and playtime, but she’s not a nonstop whirlwind… she’s just as happy relaxing nearby and soaking up attention. She was surrendered to a high kill shelter from a cattle ranch in Texas because she was supposed to be a working dog… and she was simply too kind to the animals. No herding, no chasing… just gentle curiosity and good manners. In other words, she failed ranch life but will excel at being a beloved companion. She’d do best in a home that wants a dog who can play, explore, and then happily settle in for downtime. If you’re looking for a sweet, well-rounded young dog with an easygoing soul , she might be your perfect match. Ruthie is spayed, fully vetted, vaccinated, 4DX heartworm tested negative, microchipped, freshly groomed, and ready for her forever family. Her adoption donation fee is $430. Apply for her directly on our website in the dropdown menu at: havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
