Bulldog Dogs For Adoption in Brights Grove, Ontario, Canada

Dog Breed: English Bulldog. Hi, I’m Ruthie! It took me awhile to settle in and feel comfortable in my new foster home digs, but I am finally feeling comfortable here! I am a very smart girl wh

o will pick up on rules of the house as well as tricks pretty fast. I absolutely love my treats and any food I can get my paws on; my foster parents have been working really hard with me on crate training while they are cooking in the kitchen and eating their meals to be sure I wont pester them while they eat. I am very loving and would need a family who enjoys lots of puppy cuddles. I am doing well at not using my voice when I need attention and learning to sit and wait until I am called for a cuddle. I am fully house trained and I love my long walks and hikes with my foster dad and quite enjoy the sun and the back yard time I am given. I have learned to go up and down stairs with a little coaxing at first, as well as to sit at the back door to have my feet wiped off. When my family comes home I do get a little excited but with a little less attention given when they come in I have really calmed down when they come home. I’m still full of life and energy at 8 years old, and enjoy play time with my toys and my balls, especially if I’ve been home alone for awhile; however, you better be careful because those stuffy toys will be destroyed in a blink of an eye as well as socks. I love a hard chewy toy, balls or lick mat to keep me stimulated before having a good snooze. I sleep through the night without bothering anyone and I am a little lazy to get motivated in the morning until I get my breakfast. When I’m left home alone I do not chew on things that don't belong to me. I’m a very smart girl who is eager to learn and to please, especially when I feel safe and confident in my surroundings. I love car rides and visiting with humans and kids, however I do not like having other dogs around me; even during my walks I will get anxious and want to go over to them. I will also need a family who will allow me to decompress and settle in at my own pace - but I promise, I’m worth the wait! I have a ton of love to give, all I need now is the perfect home to give me a balance of a calm relaxing lifestyle, lots of cuddles, while also allowing me to get my sillies out. * Located in Brantford.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
