d and tied to a church in the middle of a New York City winter, cold and terrified. After being brought to a shelter, her fear landed her on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, she got a second chance when a well-meaning family rescued her—but they later realized their resident dog wasn’t a match, and Minnie is now searching for the right forever home. Now safe in her foster home, Minnie is showing everyone who she truly is. While she may be a little nervous at first, Minnie warms up quickly and reveals her sweet, silly personality. Once she feels comfortable, she becomes an affectionate cuddle bug who loves attention and companionship. She’ll carry her favorite stuffies around, gently nudge you for pets, and when she’s excited, her whole body wiggles with joy. Minnie absolutely loves spending time in the yard—whether she’s sunbathing, sniffing, rolling in the grass, or showing off her playful zoomies. She’s currently living with a canine foster brother and, with a proper introduction, has done wonderfully. They enjoy playing tug and chase, and have even been spotted grooming each other and napping side by side. Minnie could do well with a compatible dog or as your one-and-only. Minnie is also a well-mannered housemate: House-trained and quick to do her business outside Crate-trained and sleeps quietly through the night Quiet overall—no barking or whining noted Non-destructive and happy to entertain herself with toys and chews Rides well in the car Knows “sit” and is working on “down” and “wait” Enjoys walks and is learning leash manners She has shown no interest in chasing cats on walks and has previously done well with children, including a young grandchild. Minnie is the kind of dog who just needs a little time to feel safe—but once she does, she gives her whole heart. She’s loving, loyal, and full of personality, ready to bring joy, laughter, and companionship to her forever home. Whether as a solo pup or with a well-matched canine friend, Minnie is more than ready for her fresh start. Could Minnie be the missing piece in your family? Minnie will be brought up to date on vaccines and tested for heartworm. Minnie has been spayed/neutered and has a microchip. Her adoption donation is $500. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
