Great Pyrenees Dogs For Adoption in Dallas, TX, USA

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Louise! Born around December 1, 2024, this stunning all-white beauty is what we affectionately call a "Pocket Pyr." While she carries the

majestic spirit and soulful gaze of a Great Pyrenees, she currently weighs in at a sturdy 60 pounds, packing that famous giant-breed personality into a more compact, manageable frame. Louise is the ultimate "human" dog; she is incredibly friendly with all adults and meets new people with a wagging tail and an open heart. She has a magical way of looking you right in the eye when she’s seeking affection, forming a deep, intuitive bond that makes her feel more like a lifelong confidant than just a pet. Louise is a "star student" who has already mastered the art of indoor living. She is fully house-trained. She is a champion napper who settles beautifully in her crate at night, but she also enjoys a moderately active lifestyle. Whether she’s keeping a watchful eye on squirrels from the safety of her yard or tossing around her favorite rope toy, she brings a delightful, moderate energy to the household. She does possess that classic Pyr trait of wanting to "talk" to you and will occasionally vocalize her thoughts, but it only adds to her charm. Because Louise forms such a profound attachment to her people, she is looking for a home where she can be the center of your universe. While she is a social butterfly with humans, she requires a very slow, supervised introduction to other dogs and would truly thrive as the only pet in the home. She is a brilliant girl with basic training already under her belt, but because she can be a little protective of her "treasures"—like a favorite bone or her food bowl—she is best suited for a home with older children who can respect her boundaries. Louise is an indoor dog who requires a fenced yard of any type to safely explore her moderately active side. Given her breed traits and her mild resource guarding, she is looking for an owner with experience who understands the unique, loyal, and sometimes independent nature of a Great Pyrenees. If you are looking for a devoted, intelligent canine companion to fill your home with love, Louise is ready to come home. Louise is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She is currently in a foster home in DFW area, Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging their own transport. Apply to meet and adopt Louise at .spinrescue

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
