givers who have worked with her to overcome her fears. Hence, the love of being petted. She is a gentle, sweet soul who just needs that special someone who will build her trust so that she will believe that her world is safe. At 8 months old, she weighs 47 pounds and is expected to be in the medium size range (somewhere up to 60 pounds) when fully grown. You can tell she is a German shepherd mix by taking a look at the coloring of her short coat. Shepherd mixes are generally known to be smart, loyal, and affectionate. They can be energetic and therefore need plenty of exercise to prevent boredom. She is a great gal and does well with other dogs. In fact, she would do best with another dog (or more) in the home to help her to continue to build confidence. Due to her shyness, she would prefer older kids in the home that can respect when she's worried and needs space. She has not had the opportunity to be introduced to a cat since coming into rescue. Bella is working on her house, crate and leash walking skills. Daily short walks (under thirty minutes) will be a good opportunity to work on leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to her with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along her walk. Please note: She may not be a running companion until after age one when her growth plate closes. Bella will also appreciate free time in the back yard to burn off energy. Keeping her mind active with activities that provide physical and mental stimulation is a must. Bella loves to be outside. It is her favorite place to be. Bella will want to be with a family that will give lots of affection and attention to her. In return, she will give her love and devotion. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Bella is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
