home alongside his siblings. He is playful, curious, and incredibly sweet. Archie loves interacting with the bigger dogs in the home and already shows impressive boundaries, often watching them closely to learn the house rules. His bold but respectful personality makes him a wonderful mix of adventurous and affectionate. Archie is a true “super mutt” with an incredible and diverse DNA mix! His lineage includes American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Siberian Husky, German Shepherd Dog, Labrador Retriever, Chow Chow, Australian Cattle Dog, Poodle (Toy & Miniature), American Cocker Spaniel, Chihuahua, Golden Retriever, Pomeranian, Alaskan Malamute, Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, Mastiff, Boxer, Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Boston Terrier, Keeshond, Maltese, and Lhasa Apso. With such a wide variety of breeds in his background, Archie’s adult size is truly a mystery! Momma Shiloh weighs just 25 pounds, so if Archie takes after the smaller breeds in his DNA like Poodle, Pomeranian, Chihuahua, Maltese, or Lhasa Apso, he may stay on the smaller side. If he favors his Shepherd, Husky, Retriever, or other working-breed relatives, he could grow into a medium or possibly larger-sized adult. At 6 pounds right now, he’s the biggest of his brothers so far, but only time will tell where he lands! Archie may inherit intelligence and drive from his Shepherd, Husky, and Cattle Dog lineage. His Retriever and Spaniel genes could bring friendliness and eagerness to please, while his terrier and guardian-breed background may contribute to his confidence and loyalty. His companion-breed mix may add that affectionate, people-oriented sweetness that makes him such a joy to be around. He is just beginning potty training and will need continued guidance, patience, and consistency as he learns. With structure and positive reinforcement, Archie has all the potential to grow into a well-balanced, devoted family companion. Archie would do well in a home with other dogs or as a solo pup soaking up all the attention. An active family and/or a yard where he can run, play, and explore would be a wonderful fit for this outgoing boy. Archie will be ready for his forever home on March 7th, and applications are being accepted now. If you are interested in adopting, please visit the I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue website and complete an adoption application: .icaredogrescue/ready-to-adopt Adoption fee includes: spay/neuter • shots up to date • micro-chip • fecal and vet check Breed and age are not guaranteed.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
