Date into Rescue:1/17/2026
Reason for being in rescue: Jacy was found as a stray in the low country of SC. A kindly groomer found him and kept him safe until we could get him to the poodle farm.
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Jacy was what we affectionately call a "hot mess" when he was found. He's been neutered, is current on vaccines and is heartworm negative. Intact, teeth rotting out of his head and oh yes, he also has a 5/6 heart murmur and will need to take medication daily. He is on pimobenden 1.25 mg dose twice per day. In other words - Jacy has a large heart - but please do not worry. He did not get the memo that he is "special needs." His selective hearing kicked in and he only heard the word "special" and he agrees with that! For pricing meds, we use 1800petmeds as our baseline. Normal price is est $2.74 per day. You can order the 2.5 and split that to get the price down to about $2.10 per day.
Jacy also came down with a very severe case of aspiration pneumonia after his massive dental. He coughed and coughed and coughed - he is just finishing up his antibiotics and our vet strongly suggests that his new home get a chest x ray as a baseline as soon as possible so his new vet can closely monitor his cardiac needs. He still coughs occasionally and our vet has advised he may never lose that slight cough from time to time.
Please note that while Jacy has the classic poodle curly hair, his body type says there is another breed or too mixed in. That means we are unsure if Jacy is full poodle and cannot promise he is 100% hypoallergenic. He does not shed in his crate or on the furniture here. He also can really rock a sweater and loves to wear clothes.
Weight: 10.5 lbs - he's gained a pound with us and looks really good
Height: 11 in at the shoulder
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless! Because of Jacy's many physical needs, there is no adoption fee. A donation to our Luna's Legacy Medical Fund of whatever amount you feel is appropriate would be appreciated and valued.
Fence needed? No.
What kind of home would be best for me? Jacy forms strong bonds and prefers to keep that special connection all to himself, which is why he is looking for a home without other dogs. While he can be around respectful adult dogs in neutral settings, Jacy becomes protective of his people in the home and may try to push other dogs away if they get too close. Puppies, in particular, are not his style- he much prefers calm, mature company and a peaceful environment. This little guy does not seem to mind cats a bit!
A quiet, low-key household where he can relax and enjoy uninterrupted time with his humans will suit him best. Jacy has shown a particular fondness for men, though he is capable of bonding with anyone willing to earn his trust and respect his personality. He is crate trained and actually finds great comfort in his crate. At times, Jacy enjoys retreating there to rest and recharge. When he chooses crate time, he prefers not to be disturbed, and the best approach is to leave the door open and allow him to come out on his own when he’s ready.
Because Jacy can be vocal when left alone, he will need a stand-alone home rather than one with shared walls. He does settle after a short time, but he appreciates an adopter who understands that he has opinions and isn’t shy about expressing them.
What is my personality like? Jacy is a devoted little companion searching for a home where he can be someone’s one and only. His world revolves around his people, and he loves deeply and wholeheartedly. Once attached, he becomes a loyal shadow, happily following you from room to room- yes, even the bathroom. He simply wants to be included in your daily life and adventures.
Jacy is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and happiest when being held or carried close to his person. He enjoys companionship, rides along on outings, and being part of whatever you’re doing. He walks nicely on leash, does well for grooming, and is ready to become a loving, constant companion for someone looking for a loyal best friend. For the right person seeking a devoted sidekick with a big heart and an even bigger love for his humans, Jacy will be an endlessly rewarding companion.
In an environment where Jacy must be around other dogs is it best if the other dogs are large than him as he can sometimes bully smaller more submissive dogs.
How do I act when I first meet new people? Jacy does not meet a stranger. He loves all people and will walk up to new people for love and attention.
Other tips and tidbits: Because Jacy was found as a stray, we know nothing about him and had to estimate based on our experience and our vet's knowledge of poodles and how they age. We estimate Jacy to be over 8 so have given him a birthdate of 1/19/2018.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters
Dogs can’t drive — and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them.
