Please visit aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Lilo is a bright, joyful burst of energy wrapped in a 30-pound Border Collie/Aussie mix body. Around four years old, she is the definition of enthusiastic—always ready for the next adventure, the next game of fetch, or the next opportunity to show off her clever mind. She greets life with excitement and a tail that never seems to stop wagging. This smart girl already knows sit, shake, and lay down, and she learns quickly with a willingness that makes training both fun and rewarding. With her intelligence and drive, Lilo has all the makings of an incredible sport or activity partner. Whether it’s rally, scent work, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, or simply an energetic game of fetch in the yard, she is ready to be your teammate. In fact, she loves fetch so much that she’ll sometimes toss the ball back to you herself if you’re not quick enough—just to keep the game going. Once she’s had a chance to burn off her zoomies, Lilo transforms into a devoted cuddle buddy. She’ll happily snuggle up close on the couch to watch TV, content just being near her people. She’s fully house trained, sleeps through the night in her crate, walks well on leash, and rides comfortably in the car. She loves kids and has done wonderfully with the children she’s lived with, bringing her playful spirit and affectionate heart into the home. Lilo does well with many dogs (but not some other female dogs) and has lived with cats, responding well to redirection when reminded of her manners. She thrives with structure, activity, and engagement, and she would do best in a home looking for a sporty, energetic partner who’s ready to include her in daily adventures. For someone seeking a smart, fun-loving, loyal companion who can keep up and then curl up, Lilo is ready to leap right into your life and your heart. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
